Facilities

The laboratory of Prof. Khlystov at Duke University occupies 500sqf and has a comprehensive suite of equipment for physical and chemical characterization of aerosol. The instrumentation includes:

  • a TSI constant output atomizer
  • two TSI Differential Mobility Analyzers (TSI3071)
  • three Condensation Particle Counters (two TSI CPC3010 and one Quant Technology W-CPC 400),
  • one Steam-Jeat Aerosol Collector (SJAC) system
  • denuders and filter packs
  • size selective inlets.

For chemical analysis we have:

  • two Metrohm-Peak ion chromatographs with conductivity and UV-VIS detectors
  • a high-sensitivity Shimadzu Total Organic Carbon analyzer with Total Nitrogen unit.
  • three Ocean Optics spectrophotometers, reactors and optical flow cells

In addition, laminar flow benches, HPLC and GC-MS are also available to the PI in his department. Additional aerosol characterization equipment such as cascade impactors, aerodynamic particle sizers, etc. is available through collaborative contacts with the EPA-RTP.
